CASA BIMBO is a social cooperative founded in 1995 by the current president Mrs. Giuliana Boscheri and a group of women. They were of the convinced that female work  would be a valuable resource for all those needs people express and to which women have always responded by volunteering their help, without thinking of their careers and economic prospects.

In the beginning the cooperative had thirteen members who started a vocational training course to guarantee professional competence and create an identity for a new educational figure – the home childcare operator – Tagesmutter (Italian: assistente domiciliare all’infanzia) which at that time was hardly known and appreciated.

Thanks to the commitment of CASA BIMBO in 1996 a law was passed in South Tyrol which today still provides the legal framework for  the service provided by home childcare operators, the so-called “Tagesmutter”.

CASA BIMBO is the first initiative in Italy of this kind which has been able to establish this service as a real work opportunity for the operators and for the parents who make use of it. Thus it is possible to solve two social problems at the same time: first create working opportunities for women while taking into account  the needs of their families and secondly flexible child care services where parents can become partners and don’t need to adapt to set times.

At the moment CASA BIMBO has more than 100 members working throughout the province of Bolzano, either at their homes or in facilities run by the cooperative. Furthermore CASA BIMBO together with the consulting agency “consulenza OPEN” offers interested institutions, towns and villages in other regions the possibility to promote similar projects. The city of Turin for example has made use of this offer and has founded a cooperative called “Piccola Cooperativa Casa Bimbo  Torino”. This cooperative has acquired the rights to use the registered label “CASA BIMBO TAGESMUTTER” from “consulenza OPEN”. In Treviso the cooperative “Idea” has also inserted the label in its project.

Furthermore  in 1999 “consulenza OPEN” and CASA BIMBO started the home childcare service – Tagesmutter in the province of Trento and provided consultancy to the public institutions for a draft of a provincial law then passed on 12^th March 2002.
