The Tagesmutter

The home childcare operator

Where and when do they work?
The operators of CASA BIMBO work in their own homes. Working hours may vary a lot to be able to meet families’ needs. Some work mostly in the mornings and early afternoons, others take in children also in the evenings and even at night. The service will be provided all  year round and if necessary on holidays as well. In case of illness or impediment of the operator one of her colleagues living in the near surroundings will fill in. These two colleagues meet regularly so that  they already know the children they will be caring for.

The homes of the Tagesmütter are located throughout the province of Bolzano and are of course quite different one from the other, but all offer the child a comfortable, childproof and healthy environment which wishes to transmit safety and warmth. The number of children present in the home of the Tagesmutter is quite small so that it won’t be crowded but still offers children the possibility to make new friends.

The operators guarantee a clean environment, refrain from smoking during working hours and if there are pets they will be regularly checked by the vet.

When going for walks operators will choose safe locations and avoid crowded or polluted  roads and places.
One of the favourite spots will of course be the playground where children are free to play together in the open air.

How is the work with children organised?

First of all we would like to remember that the work of the operators varies a lot according to the age and number of the children present and it also depends on the resources the home offers.

As far as equipment is concerned (such as beds, child seats, prams etc.) the cooperative provides the necessary items according to the needs of each operator.

As the homes vary a lot in size the operators make the best use of the space at their disposal. Some homes are very spacious and it’s possible to create well equipped areas for playing, others dispose of terraces and/or gardens and can therefore offer activities related to discovering the nature, or of movement. Other operators may live near childcare facilities such as the ELKI (parent-child-kindergarden) or other facilities open to the public where operators can meet and organise social activities for all the children.

Every operator provides individual, child-centered care and follows the cooperative’s guidelines. There is a “hot line” with the coordinators, counsellors and paediatrician whenever operators need advice. If operators take care of foster children they also collaborate with the Social Services. They very often participate in social, recreational activities organised by the local councils or boroughs.
